World Challenge is the same 50 questions for everyone on Earth today. Your score is how many you get right, with your time as the tie-break, and the daily board shows where you stand. It needs an internet connection. The science: World Challenge.

How do I play today's challenge?

  1. Tap World Challenge on the home screen. You see today's leader, how many players there are, and a goal to beat.
  2. Tap START TODAY'S CHALLENGE. After a countdown the questions come one by one.
  3. Type each answer: it is checked as soon as you have typed enough digits. Some answers have a decimal point, and the keypad then shows a point key.

The questions start easy and grow harder: quick adding and times tables first, then bigger sums, simple decimals, squares and square roots towards the end.

What happens when I get one wrong?

A wrong answer shakes and clears, and the screen shows how many attempts are left. After the third wrong try the answer shows for a moment and the next question comes. There is no time penalty, but a missed question is not counted as correct.

How is the score worked out?

More correct answers always win; the time only decides between players with the same number correct. The board shows two columns: CORRECT (for example 44/50) and TIME. Only your best run of the day counts. See Leaderboards.

When does a new challenge start?

At midnight UK time. The screen counts down: "Crown decided in ... · midnight UK".

Can I play again today?

Free players get one ranked challenge a day. After it, PLAY AGAIN carries a PRO tag, with how long until the next free one. With Pro you can play the ranked challenge as often as you like, and your best run counts.

The free run is used once the questions have loaded, so start when you are ready: quitting part way uses it too.

What is the practice challenge?

PRACTICE CHALLENGE gives you a fresh set of random questions in the same style. It is never ranked and never touches the board. It counts as a workout toward your free workouts.

How do streaks work?

Finish a ranked challenge on a new day to start or extend your streak; the chip on the screen shows it. Practice runs do not count. Badges wait for 7 and 30 day streaks.

Can I see the scores without playing?

Yes: tap Today's scores, or tap the leader card. The list shows the top 50, with your own row highlighted and this week's leader.

Can I use a keyboard?

Yes: digits, . or , for the decimal point, Backspace to delete and Delete to clear. Esc asks before you leave the round.
