Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Math Workout (“we”, “us”, the “app”) collects, why, and your choices. It covers the Android app and the web version at mathworkout.app. Math Workout and Math Bro are run by the same company and share one account system, so the same account works in both.

Playing without an account

On our website you can play 3 times without an account; after that an account is needed. We count those plays on your device only. We do not use your internet address to count plays. In the Android app an account is optional.

What we collect

• Random device IDs. The app creates random identifiers stored on your device: one recognises your device for Pro and the free workouts allowance, another identifies your device on the leaderboards. They aren’t linked to your name or to any advertising profile.
• Gameplay & progress. Scores, achievements, medals, brain-age results, settings and streaks: stored on your device, and (for online leaderboards, and for your account if you have one) on our server.
• Play counts. How many workouts you have played, how many upgrade reminders were shown or dismissed, and your daily World Challenge runs, so we can apply the free allowance. They are kept against your account when you are signed in, otherwise against the random device ID.
• Special offers. When we show you a special offer, we store when it started so its deadline stays the same on all your devices.
• Leaderboard name. Any player may type a display name in Settings. It is shown publicly on leaderboards next to your scores and country flag, and every name passes our profanity filter. Pick a nickname if you prefer.
• Approximate country. We work out your country from your internet address using a database stored on our own server (DB-IP Lite, CC BY 4.0). Your address is not sent to anyone else to do this. We use the country to show prices in your currency and the flag next to leaderboard names. We don’t store your internet address against your profile.
• Accounts. On our website an account is needed after 3 plays; in the Android app it is optional. You can sign in with Google or with an email address and a password. For an account we keep:
  • your email address, or your Google account ID and email;
  • a hashed password (never the password itself), if you use one;
  • a scrambled form of each sign-in token (never the token itself);
  • play counts (workouts, reminders shown and dismissed, daily challenge runs), kept separately for Math Workout and Math Bro;
  • your progress: badges, scores and best times, practice history, your practice answers and timings (the most recent 600, so practice adapts the same way on every device), method progress, and the settings that follow you (theme, question count, difficulty). Your progress is shared by Math Workout and Math Bro when you use the same account;
  • the link between your devices’ leaderboard entries and your account;
  • for a device that holds a purchase, which accounts (at most 2) may use it;
  • your Pro status and purchase records, kept separately for Math Workout and Math Bro (see Purchases).
  We do not ask for or keep any age, year of birth or age group.
• Purchases. Pro upgrades are processed by Google Play in the Android app and by Stripe on our website. We never see or store your full card details. We keep your Pro status and purchase records for each app (Math Workout Pro and Math Bro Pro are separate): for Google Play, the order ID and a scrambled form of the purchase token; for website purchases, the Stripe payment reference, the currency and amount, the country used for the price and the card’s country.
• Emails we send. Only sign-in codes, password resets, account notices (for example “Google sign-in was added”) and Pro codes.
• Support messages. If you contact support, we receive the email, message and device info you send us, and the internet address it came from, to help you.

What we don’t do

• We don’t sell or rent your personal information.
• We don’t serve third-party ads or use advertising SDKs.
• We don’t track you across other apps or websites.
• We don’t use your internet address to count plays, and we don’t identify your device by fingerprinting.

Microphone (Say It!)

Mental Math Master has an optional Say It! mode that lets you answer out loud instead of typing. Math Workout only uses your microphone if you switch Say It! on and allow microphone access, and only while a question is waiting for your answer: a red microphone on screen shows when it is listening.

• Who turns speech into numbers. Your speech is converted to text by your phone’s built-in speech recognition service (for example, Google’s). Where your phone supports it, this happens on the device. If it can’t, your phone’s speech service may send the audio to its provider to recognise it, under that provider’s own privacy terms.
• What we keep. The app only uses the recognised number to check your answer. We don’t record or store your voice, and we never send your audio or the words you said to our servers or to our analytics.
• Your choice. Say It! is off unless you turn it on. You can switch it off at any time in Mental Math Master, or remove Math Workout’s microphone permission in your phone’s settings. Typing your answers always works.

How we use it

To run the game, apply the free allowance, save your progress and keep it in step across your devices when you sign in, show leaderboards, process and protect Pro upgrades, send the emails listed above, keep sign-in and payments secure, and respond to support requests.

Website purchases

Purchases on our website are processed by Stripe at the price for your country, and are tied to your account and to the app you bought them for (Math Workout Pro and Math Bro Pro are separate purchases). Refunds and chargebacks remove Pro. We record the card’s country with the purchase and may review purchases where it does not match the price country.

Service providers

We use Google Play and Stripe for payments, Google Sign-In (if you choose it), our hosting provider (IONOS) to operate our servers and send our emails, and, only if you use Say It!, your phone’s own speech recognition service (see “Microphone” above). These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy terms. We don’t share your data with anyone else. Country lookups use the DB-IP Lite database on our own server: IP Geolocation by DB-IP, licensed under CC BY 4.0.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how the app is used so we can improve it (for example, which modes are popular and where players get stuck). It collects usage events, an analytics identifier, your approximate location (country, derived from your IP address) and basic device/browser information. This data is processed by Google as described in Google’s Privacy Policy. If you use Say It!, we record only that it was used and how many answers were recognised, never what you said. Events about signing in, syncing and purchases carry no personal data: never your email, your account ID or your device IDs. We have disabled Google’s advertising features, so this data is not used to show you ads. You can opt out with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Storage in your browser

On our website we store a few items in your browser: your progress and settings, a play counter for the 3 plays without an account, and your sign-in token once you sign in. When you create an account on mathworkout.app we also set a verification cookie (for 24 hours) so the confirmation link in our email only works in the browser that signed up. These items are strictly necessary for the service you asked for. We don’t use advertising cookies.

Children

We do not ask anyone’s age and keep no age data. Our terms require anyone below the age of digital consent in their country to have a parent’s or guardian’s permission to create an account, and parents and guardians are responsible for their children’s use. A parent or guardian can delete an account and its data at any time (Settings, or the delete-account page). Say It! (answering out loud) only uses the microphone after it is switched on and microphone access is allowed, and we never store children’s voices; parents can leave it off or remove microphone access in the phone’s settings.

Security

Connections use HTTPS, passwords are hashed, sign-in tokens are only stored in scrambled form, and payment card data never touches our servers. To protect sign-in and payments we keep short-lived codes made from internet addresses to limit repeated attempts. Each code is scrambled with a secret that changes every day; the records are deleted when their time window ends (at most a day), and each day’s secret is deleted within 2 days, after which no code can be linked back to an address. Error reports from the app keep the same kind of scrambled code, never the address itself, and are deleted after 30 days. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.

How long we keep data

• Records that limit repeated attempts: at most 24 hours; each day’s secret: deleted within 2 days.
• Error reports: 30 days.
• Sign-in codes: 30 minutes (links in our emails: 24 hours).
• Unconfirmed accounts: deleted after 30 days, unless they hold a purchase or saved progress or were used in the last 30 days.
• Sign-in tokens: at most 365 days.
• Account data: until you delete your account in Settings or ask us by email.
• Purchase records: kept for tax and refund handling; the email is removed from them when the account is deleted.
• Log of changes to Pro status: 400 days.
• Gameplay data on your device: while you use the app. You can clear it by uninstalling the app or clearing your browser storage.

Deleting your data & your rights

“Delete my account” in Settings deletes your account at once (it asks for your password or your Google sign-in). You can also use our delete-account page, or email support@mathworkout.app to access, correct or delete account data or a leaderboard entry. The “This wasn’t me” link in our sign-up emails removes an account that was created with your address. Depending on your location you may have rights under the UK GDPR / GDPR / CCPA, including access and deletion.

Changes

We may update this policy; we’ll revise the “last updated” date above. Material changes will be highlighted in the app or on this page.
