Math Workout reads your handwritten digits on your device, with a small built-in recogniser. Nothing you draw is sent anywhere.
How does Math Workout read my writing?
A moment after you lift your finger, it reads the digits on the paper, splitting them where there is a gap. When it reads the right answer, it is accepted at once. If it reads a different number with the right number of digits, it waits a moment in case you are still writing, then counts it as a wrong try. If it has read fewer digits than the answer needs, it waits for you to keep writing.
For answers with 2 or more digits, one look-alike digit (such as 1 and 7, or 4 and 9) is forgiven.
How do I make my digits easier to read?
- Write each digit large, using most of the height of the paper.
- Leave a small gap between digits, so they do not touch.
- Write one digit at a time, left to right.
- Close your loops: a 0, 6, 8 or 9 should be clearly round.
- If it reads the wrong thing, tap CLEAR and write it again.
What happens after three wrong tries?
The answer appears faintly on the paper and the round moves on. In the workouts each wrong try adds 5 seconds, so a slow, clear digit is quicker than a fast, messy one.
It says "Loading…" or nothing happens when I write. Why?
The recogniser loads the first time you write. In a browser it is part of the offline download: if you are offline before it has downloaded, writing cannot be read yet. Connect to the internet once and try again.
Can I use the keypad instead?
Yes. In Times Table Master, switch off Write-it Mode on its screen. On a computer, Brain Age Check has no handwriting unless you switch on Handwriting in Brain Age on the Computer card in Settings. On phones and tablets, Brain Age Check always includes 7 handwritten questions.
